How this tool works
This tool uses PDF.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF rendering engine (the same one that powers Firefox's built-in PDF viewer), to render each page of your PDF onto a canvas element. The canvas is then exported as a JPG or PNG image and made available for download. All rendering happens inside your browser — your PDF file is not transmitted anywhere.
Choosing the right DPI
150 DPI is good for screen viewing and WhatsApp sharing. 200 DPI is suitable for presentations and email. 300 DPI produces print-quality images suitable for professional use. Higher DPI creates larger files — for each PDF page, a 300 DPI image can be 2-5MB depending on content.
Frequently asked questions
How many pages can I convert at once?
All pages of the PDF are converted in one operation. For large PDFs (50+ pages), conversion may take a few minutes on mobile. On a laptop or desktop, most PDFs convert in seconds.
Should I use JPG or PNG output?
JPG is smaller and suitable for most purposes including WhatsApp, email, and social media. PNG is lossless and better for documents with text, diagrams, or when you need the highest quality. For Aadhaar and PAN card conversions, use PNG for maximum text clarity.
Can I convert a specific page range only?
Yes — select "Custom range" in the Pages dropdown and enter a range like "1-3" or specific pages like "1,3,5". This is useful for large PDFs where you only need specific pages.
Why does the ZIP download take time?
The ZIP file is created entirely in your browser using JavaScript. For PDFs with many pages or high DPI settings, creating the ZIP can take 10-30 seconds. The browser must process all images before packaging them.
Does this work on iPhone?
Yes, this tool works in Safari on iPhone and iPad. For the ZIP download on iOS, the ZIP file will be saved to your Files app in the Downloads folder. Individual page downloads work normally.
